or more responders. During discovery, the controller finds the UIDs on the line without requiring an operator to walk to every fixture.<\/p>\n<ol class=\"steps\">\n<li><strong>Discover:<\/strong> the controller searches for RDM responders on the link.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Identify:<\/strong> discovered devices are distinguished by UID and available device information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Interrogate:<\/strong> the controller uses supported parameter identifiers, or <strong>PIDs<\/strong>, to ask for information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Read:<\/strong> a <strong>GET<\/strong> command requests an implemented value, such as the current start address.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Change:<\/strong> a <strong>SET<\/strong> command asks a responder to change a supported parameter; the responder returns an acknowledgement or an error response.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Continue control:<\/strong> ordinary DMX levels continue to carry the show.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>The protocol defines the transaction method, but it does not make every optional parameter available on every product.
